Pastoral Refreshment Conference 2011

The Pastoral Refreshment Conference 2011 publicity has just gone to the printers. I can't wait! God has done so much through this conference in the past, I am itching to see what he does through this one.

If you've not heard about this unique conference of "soul care" for leaders and their spouses, then click here to read comments and reviews from a wide variety of evangelical leaders.

Last year Sam Allberry, author of Lifted - Living the Resurrection Life said:

"Easily the best conference for Christian workers I've been on. As I drove back home I was feeling so excited at the prospect of getting to know my God better, and it's hard to think of a better outcome from a conference than that! It did everything it said on the tin: it was a really friendly, warm and open atmosphere, and the program was just right in terms of content and balance. It was a joy to hear Dick Dowsett again, but the highlight was probably John Risbridger's exposition on Psalm 32 which has been on my heart and mind ever since. So, thank you to you all for all the work you put into serving us. I really can't wait for next year!"

Although my favourite comment came from a woman church leader who said "this is a community of grace - it's the antidote to Christian conferences"!

This year's theme is "God Intended It For Good" reflections for leaders from the life of Joseph. The main guest preacher is David Coffey, President of the Baptist World Alliance.

Knowing that some people will be struggling with the effects of the recent budget we have managed to peg the price at last year's rate, which is something of a venture of faith! We expect places to go pretty quickly, so if you are interested, get over to the Living Leadership site and download the booking form.

Pastoral Refreshment Conference 2 Weeks On

A big thank you to everyone who prayed for the conference. God graciously blessed us greatly. Here is how one vicar who attended for the first time described his experience in a press review:

Living in a ‘how to’ age it is a relief to come across a Christian conference designed to serve all those involved in Gospel ministry (yes, wives are included) which is concerned with refreshing the soul, focusing on being a certain person under the Lord rather than doing certain things for the Lord. What proved to be one of the best gatherings I have been to in years, the Pastoral Refreshment Conference is unique and a blessing. It is billed as; ‘enjoying God, receiving refreshment and being encouraged’ we had all three in bucket loads!

The atmosphere was warm, friendly and relaxed- the aim was to take the pressure off busy pastors and their wives. The Bible teaching was rich and realistically applied by Dick Dowsett, with the most pertinent illustrations drawn from a vast and extensive ministry around the world. The times praise and prayer were  terrific. The seminars were optional and dealt with the real world of Gospel ministry- stress and burnout, cultivating friendships, how we change and grow as Christians (but if you wanted to go for a walk or read or sleep instead you could do so without incurring a look of disapproval or left feeling guilty). Genuine friendships were made, old ones rekindled and the shear delight of knowing God and serving his people were experienced afresh.

This is a spiritual oasis which is a must for Evangelical leaders today.

Praise God for using weak, inadequate people to serve his church.

Refreshment 2010

The 2010 Pastoral Refreshment Conference is just around the corner. I can't wait, it is always the highlight of my year.

Hothrope Hall will be packed out. There are just three or four places left for (normally UK-based) Christian leaders and spouses, so if you are (or know) one, who would appreciate three days glorious gazing on Christ, inspiring preaching on the joy of the Lord as our strength in leadership and careful nurture of your soul, then why not come and join us?

Pastoral Refreshment Conference 2010

If three days of enjoying the love of God and seeking Him for his grace in leadership, with lots of prayer, worship, great food and great countryside sound enticing then book 1-3 Feb 2010 in your diary and ask for an application form. Preaching this year comes from Dick Dowsett (OMF) on the joy of the Lord is your strength, along with a good variety of genuinely helpful, practical seminars for our walk with the Lord as leaders. As one delegate said last year: I tell all my friends "come, come, if you have to steal my car to get there, then do it!" Its the conference I most want to be at. Come in, the water's lovely!
