Marmaris beach, let's be honest, is not the world's best for snorkling. But it is a good sight better than Bournemouth and warm with a few delicate, interesting fish and crystal clear water.
As you swim lazily up and down trying not to disturb the sand an interesting thing happens. Fish gather in the shallows, following the outline of my shadow, a couple of feet behind. First one, then twos and threes, eventually several dozen.
Why do they gather? I think they mistake me for a boat! Whether they are seeking food or shade I don't know, but for a few minutes they want to be with me and I am happy to provide for the needs of my mini flotilla.
