BibleFresh

Had a great time at the Evangelical Alliance London BibleFresh launch yesterday. BibleFresh is a whole raft of 2011 initiatives by EA and a lot of churches designed to put the Bible fairly and squarely at the heart of church life.

I know some folk who think that the EA has lost its Bible focus in recent years. I don't know if that has been true in the past, but it certainly isn't now. With Krish Kandiah in the BibleFresh driving seat it is clearly absolutely central.

Highlight of the day for me was Mark Meynell's (All Souls Langham Place) talk "The Shock of the Old" - how to let the ancient Bible text speak freshly and shockingly today. He was especially good on helping people get over what he calls "chronological snobbery" - the idea that we are so much cleverer and knowledgeable than people in Bible times, for being modern. As another friends said to me recently "we don't know more today than they did then, we just know some different things, though not necessarily more valuable ones."

You can read Mark's talk here, or download it soon from the BibleFresh site. Well worth it.
